As part of being a UKESF Scholar, I took part in four visits to Richard Taunton Sixth Form College during 2017-2018 to promote electronics to their A-Level Physics students.
During these visits, I reached a total of 33 Year 12 students and delivered talks on studying electronic engineering, the skills developed, and available career opportunities. I also handed out silicon wafers, working microcontroller boards, and custom PCBs so that the students could witness the applications of electronics first-hand, something that I felt was missing from my A-Level education.
I then concluded the visits with Q&A sessions, spoke to students individually, and provided advice on finding opportunities to participate in electronics. My visits were well received by the students and inspired one student to re-commit to his Physics instead of dropping the subject!
This outreach, along with other contributions to promoting electronics in the local community, supported my application and subsequent winning of the 2018 UKESF Scholar of the Year Award.
