The UKESF Scholar of the Year award is given to the UKESF scholar who has:

  • made a significant contribution to their sponsoring employer through their work placement.
  • actively promoted Electronics to young people or encouraged the study of STEM subjects in schools.

In the opening months of my year-long work placement with my UKESF partnered company UltraSoC, I made several contributions that benefited their engineering team on a daily basis. This, alongside my work promoting electronics in sixth forms, presenting to primary school children, and connecting undergraduates with electronics companies through my work as the President of the Electronics and Computer Science Society, were all part of my application for the award.

After the applications were judged, I made it through to the final two candidates and was invited to attend the 2018 TechWorks Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony where the final winner would be announced. That winner turned out to be me!

The event brought together over 400 executives and professionals from across the industry, and was a fantastic opportunity to network.

This was also covered in several articles.

This was also covered by Southampton University’s #MyUoSjourney campaign, which focused on sharing student’s successes. My story was published on the university’s social media feeds and printed onto leaflets, posters, pop-up banners, and lamp post banners and placed throughout the campus.
