The BrightSparks award is organised by RS Components and Electronics Weekly, and highlights the most talented young electronic engineers in the UK. I joined 29 other engineers at the Institute of Engineering and Technology in London to receive the awards, network, and participate in a round table discussion about the various challenges facing the UK electronics industry.
The winners were selected from an initial group of 45 entries by a panel of directors, editors, and CEOs from companies including the IET, RS Components, and Electronics Weekly Magazine. The judging criteria included quality of innovation, community work, and entrepreneurship; and the highlights of my application included the XML transform work I did during my placement at UltraSoC, and the work I did as president of the Southampton University Electronics and Computer Science Society. The breakdown of my achievements is listed in this profile written by Electronics Weekly.
The awards were covered in several articles including the UKESF, and Electronics Weekly.
